Learn-2-Live Well

Learn-2-Live Well

We are on a mission to tackle the childhood obesity crisis in Cambridgeshire, by helping support schools and families to make long-term healthy changes through the Learn-2-Live Well programme.

Learn-2-Live Well was a Cambridgeshire County Council funded programme to address childhood obesity. The fund was open to all Cambridgeshire state schools – including government funded academies and local authority maintained primary schools. The programme’s aim was to support schools in developing a whole-school approach to promoting, educating

and improving healthy eating and physical activity. Schools applied for grants of up to £10,000 to fund projects to help children develop a healthier lifestyle through pupil driven interventions. Successful applicants demonstrated innovative and creative projects to improve childhood obesity levels, that focused on the children, school, and local community.

Learn-2-Live Well success stories

The Learn-2-Live Well Fund aimed to support schools to develop a whole-school approach to promoting, educating, and improving healthy eating habits and physical activity.

We worked closely with over 90 primary schools and over 20,000 children across Cambridgeshire to improve healthy habits and physical activity levels. 62% of successful applicants fell within priority areas, with high numbers of free school meals and unhealthy weight. 22 primary schools requested our Dragon’s Den style and Active Mile programmes, allowing us to directly deliver workshops and events to over 1,400 pupils.

Seeing the smiles on children’s faces during the workshops, it’s clear that the fund has had a terrific impact.” – Laura Williams, Education Specialist.

Learn-2-Live Well Fund

This fund will go a long way towards helping children develop better eating and exercise habits at a young age, to enable them to live happier and healthier lives when they get older. It will also align with the council’s strategic ambition of providing a good quality of life for everyone living in the county, giving our children and young people opportunities to thrive.
