Move More Ambassadors

Inspiring people to move more and live better

Inspiring people to move more and live better

Move More Ambassadors are local people across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who use their own experiences, enthusiasm and community connections to encourage others to be more active in a way that feels right for them.

You do not need to be the sportiest person in the room, have formal qualifications, or already volunteer every week. What matters most is that you care about helping others feel more confident, included and supported to move more and live better.

Through the programme, Living Better wants to recognise and support people who already give their time, energy and encouragement to others, as well as people who would like to start doing more in their community.

Whether you are a young person encouraging friends to get involved, a parent supporting family activity, someone who has overcome barriers to being active, a volunteer at a club or community group, or someone who simply believes movement can make life better, we would love to hear from you.

What is a Move More Ambassador?

A Move More Ambassador is someone who champions physical activity, wellbeing and inclusion in their local community.

Ambassadors help people see that being active does not have to mean joining a gym, playing competitive sport or being confident straight away. It can start with small steps, friendly encouragement, local opportunities and trusted people who understand what might get in the way or what the barriers might be.

Move More Ambassadors help create positive conversations about movement and wellbeing. They may share their own story, promote local activities, support community sessions, encourage friends or neighbours, signpost people to opportunities, or help Living Better understand what communities need most.

Why become a Move More Ambassador?

Every community has people who quietly make a difference.

Move More Ambassadors encourage others, give their time, share ideas, support sessions, welcome new people, and help make activity feel more possible.

The Move More Ambassador programme is about celebrating and supporting those people.

As a Move More Ambassador, you can:

  • Inspire others to take small steps towards being more active
  • Help people feel more confident to try something new
  • Promote positive wellbeing, inclusion and belonging
  • Share local opportunities, activities and events
  • Support friends, family, colleagues, clubs or community groups
  • Use your voice and experience to help shape future physical activity opportunities
  • Be part of a supportive network of people who care about helping others move more

What could Ambassadors do?

“Every Movement starts with someone”

The role is flexible and can fit around your interests, confidence, availability and community connections.

You might:

  • Talk positively about movement and wellbeing with people you know
  • Encourage someone to attend a local activity or session
  • Help promote community activities, events or campaigns
  • Share your own lived experience to inspire others
  • Support or volunteer at local sessions, clubs or community events
  • Signpost people to activities, groups, training or local services
  • Gather feedback from your community about what would help people be more active
  • Champion inclusive opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds
  • Help Living Better understand barriers that stop people from moving more

You do not have to do all of these things. We will work with you to understand how you would like to be involved and what support would help you feel confident.

    Who can apply?

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, abilities and activity levels.

    You may be:

    • Someone who already volunteers in your community
    • A young person who wants to support or inspire other young people
    • A parent, carer or family member who helps others be active
    • A club volunteer, coach, helper or session supporter
    • Someone with lived experience of overcoming barriers to physical activity
    • Someone living with a long-term health condition or disability who wants to share their experience
    • Someone who wants to become more involved in their community
    • A colleague or local resident who wants to champion wellbeing where they live, work or study

We particularly welcome people who understand the barriers that can make being active harder, including confidence, cost, transport, health, disability, caring responsibilities, social isolation or not feeling that activities are “for people like me”.

    Young Move More Ambassadors

*Please note: Parental or guardian consent will be required as part of the application process.

Young people have an important role to play in encouraging others and helping shape opportunities that feel relevant, welcoming and enjoyable.

Young Move More Ambassadors can support other young people to be active, share ideas, promote opportunities, contribute to youth voice, and help Living Better understand what would make physical activity more accessible and appealing.

We welcome applications from young people aged 13–17.

How can someone become an ambassador?

People can apply directly themselves or be referred by someone who thinks they would make a great Move More Ambassador.

    This could include referrals from:

    • Community organisations
    • Schools, colleges or youth groups
    • Sports clubs or activity providers
    • Health and wellbeing services
    • Local partners
    • Friends, family members or colleagues
    • Someone who has seen the positive difference a person already makes

A referral does not need to be formal. It is simply a way of helping Living Better identify people who are already encouraging others, giving their time, or showing potential to become positive community champions.

Living Better may also identify people through local work, partnerships or community conversations who are already making a positive difference and invite them to be nominated or consider becoming an ambassador.

    What support will ambassadors receive?

Living Better will support ambassadors to feel confident, valued and connected.

Support may include training, mentoring and practical resources, such as:

    • A friendly introduction to the programme
    • Guidance on the ambassador role
    • Opportunities to connect with other ambassadors, share ideas and influence future work
    • Training in coaching and leadership, where appropriate
    • Mental health awareness training
    • Inclusion training
    • Safeguarding training
    • Ongoing mentoring and support from Living Better staff and partner organisations
    • Information about local activities and opportunities
    • Recognition for the contribution ambassadors make
    • Support with branded kit to help you feel part of the programme and promote your ambassador role.

The level of involvement can vary. Some ambassadors may want to volunteer regularly, while others may simply help spread the word, share their story or encourage people within their own networks.
