Place-based Partnerships
We are dedicated to addressing the entrenched imbalances which prevent individuals and communities from staying active.
Our Place-Based approach for tackling inequalities
Every community deserves the chance to move, feel healthy, and thrive – but we know that isn’t always the reality.
Some places face bigger challenges, and for many people, getting active simply isn’t as easy as it should be. That’s why, together with Sport England and our local partners, we focus our energy where it matters most.
Using a place‑based approach across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, we identify the areas where movement can have the most powerful impact. When we direct support to the people and places who need it most, we help remove barriers, restore confidence, and open the door to healthier, more active lives.
Because everyone deserves the chance to feel the power of movement – no matter where they live.
Our Place-Based commitment
Targeting priority areas – directing resources to places facing the highest barriers to physical activity
Collaborative approach – partnering with local organisations to run programmes that promote movement and wellbeing
Data driven – using data and expert insights to see maximum impact
Back in 2024, Sport England’s Active Lives Survey data identified Peterborough and Fenland as our priority areas to target our place-based work.
Peterborough was found to have high levels of physical inactivity. Ranking within the most deprived 20% of local authorities and some wards were among the most deprived 10% nationally.
Fenland was found have high levels of physical inactivity and poor health, particularly in Wisbech and March. It ranked within the 20–30% most deprived local authorities and has pockets of significant disadvantage within the district. The data also revealed extremely high levels of physical inactivity for children and young people with 7 in 10 not reaching recommended guidelines.
