Peterborough Place-Based Working
Back in 2024, Sport England’s Active Lives Survey data identified Peterborough and Fenland as our priority areas to target our place-based work.
In October 2024, we were funded for a 2-year development project to work with local leaders across the sectors to explore the current physical activity system, identify what is working well, and where there are opportunities for improvement. From this starting point, we formed a Steering Group made up of
members from Peterborough City council (representing Place & Communities and Public Health), private leisure, education, Integrated Care, and other voluntary sectors. As part of of collaborative approach, we are also working to grow a wider partner network to increase support and awareness.
Peterborough Place Partnership
Back in 2024, Sport England’s Active Lives Survey data identified Peterborough and Fenland as our priority areas to target our place-based work.
Peterborough was found to have high levels of physical inactivity. Ranking within the most deprived 20% of local authorities and some wards were among the most deprived 10% nationally.

Steering Group working timeline
Using local data and insight, the steering group has identified priority groups and locations for Test and Learn Pilot projects, specifically focusing on young people aged 11–18 years in Wittering and Central Ward. These pilots explore how local green spaces can be better valued and utilised to support physical activity among youth. Updates will be added below as available.

Peterborough Place Partnership
In Peterborough, we have made significant progress in forming strong partnerships with organisations to better understand community needs. With the support of these partners, we have mapped key wards and identified existing resources available for community access.
