Safeguarding

At Living Better, we are committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing, and welfare of children, young people, and adults with care and support needs. We strive to ensure that everyone we work with feels safe, respected, valued, and protected.

Protecting Children, Young People, and Adults with Care and Support Needs

Everyone deserves the opportunity to take part in activities and services in a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment. At Living Better, we believe that children, young people, and adults with care and support needs have the right to feel safe, respected, valued, and free from harm.

We are committed to promoting safeguarding and wellbeing in everything we do. We work with our partners and communities to create inclusive environments where people can participate with confidence. We expect those we work with to maintain appropriate safeguarding measures that help keep people safe and supported.

If you think a child, young person, or adult with care and support needs is in immediate danger, call 999.

If there is no immediate danger but you are worried that someone may be experiencing abuse, neglect, exploitation, or harm, please contact our Safeguarding & Sports Welfare Team as soon as possible.

Concerns may relate to something you have seen, heard, been told, or noticed through a change in someone’s behaviour. You do not need to investigate the concern yourself. Share the information promptly so that the right advice and support can be offered.

Our Safeguarding & Sports Welfare team

At Living Better, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We are committed to promoting the welfare of children, young people, and adults with care and support needs, and to ensuring safeguarding is embedded throughout our work and programmes.

As an Active Partnership, we work collaboratively with statutory agencies, local safeguarding partnerships, national governing bodies, and other partners to help maintain safe environments and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns when they arise.

We also work with other Active Partnerships across the Sport Welfare Officer (SWO) network to provide up-to-date training, promote good practice, and offer tailored support to sports clubs.

Our Safeguarding & Sports Welfare Team provides leadership and oversight of safeguarding across the organisation, ensuring that safeguarding policies, procedures, and practices remain effective, compliant, and aligned with current legislation and guidance.

Keeping your child safe in sport - NSPCC

This campaign is aimed at helping parents and carers to understand their crucial safeguarding role in their child’s sport. Please watch and share this video to your social networks so that we can encourage everyone to get involved in the campaign and keep children #SafeinSport.

Parents, carers, and participants should feel confident that sport, physical activity, and community opportunities are safe, welcoming, and well organised. A safe activity provider should be able to explain who is responsible for safeguarding, how concerns are reported, what behaviour is expected from staff and volunteers, and how children, young people, and adults with care and support needs are supported to take part safely.

5 Questions to ask when enrolling your child or researching clubs or activities (NSPCC)

If something does not feel right, or if you are unsure whether to raise a concern, please speak to our Safeguarding & Sports Welfare Team. It is always better to share a concern early than to wait.
